The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) has impounded three rams and a cow in the Oluyole area of Ibadan due to violations of environmental laws. This action was announced by the OYRLEA Chairperson, Justice Aderonke Aderemi (retd.), during an enforcement operation.
Aderemi, accompanied by DCP Francis Ojomo (retd.) of the Environmental Task Force, stated that the decision was prompted by complaints from residents of Unique Estate in Oluyole. She issued a seven-day ultimatum for the owner of the animals to claim them to avoid forfeiture or incur fines.
Additionally, Aderemi directed residents of Abidiodan in Lagelu Local Government Area to evacuate shanties on road setbacks, which have reportedly become hideouts for criminal activities. She emphasized the agency’s commitment to enforcing environmental and sanitation laws, including regulations against open rearing and grazing.
The enforcement actions are part of a broader initiative to address street trading and other violations in the state. Aderemi highlighted previous sensitization efforts and reiterated the government’s readiness to tackle related offenses decisively.
The operation saw collaboration with various agencies, including Operation Burst and officers from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, underscoring a unified approach to law enforcement in Oyo State.
