The Oyo State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has issued an alert to residents in flood-prone communities, warning them to prepare for heavy rainfall and potential flooding. Citing reports from the Oyo State Flood Early Warning System, SEMA’s Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Ojuolape Busari, indicated that the areas to the east and northeast of Ibadan city center are most likely to experience the heaviest rainfall.
These areas include:
- Parts of Lagelu Local Government Area, especially Iyana Offa and eastern Moniya, and communities further east towards Osun State.
- Parts of Egbeda LGA (eastern edges) and areas bordering Lagelu LGA.
- Communities along the Ibadan-Ife Road (A5 highway), such as Egbeda and areas further east.
- Most of Ibadan Metropolis (eastern and central parts), including IITA, Ibadan Airport, University of Ibadan, Ojoo, Akobo, Basorun, Gate, Challenge, and Ring Road.
- Parts of Akinyele LGA (eastern and central parts) and parts of Oluyole LGA (northeastern sections).
OYOSEMA and other relevant agencies, along with voluntary and civil society groups, are prepared to intervene and support affected communities. Residents are urged to take immediate precautionary measures.
