Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has enforced a 24-hour curfew in Ilobu, Ifon, and Erin-Osun communities following a surge in violent clashes.
The decision, announced by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, aims to prevent further violence and restore peace. Initially, the state government had imposed a 6 PM to 6 AM curfew, but the escalating tensions necessitated a full-day restriction.
Governor Adeleke expressed deep concern over the renewed conflict between Ilobu and Ifon, which has now spread to Erin-Osun. He has directed security forces—including the Nigerian Army, Police, Civil Defence, and Amotekun—to ensure strict enforcement of the curfew and maintain round-the-clock surveillance.
As part of efforts to mediate the crisis, the governor convened an emergency stakeholders’ meeting with traditional rulers, including the Olufon of Ifon, Oba Peter Oluwole Akinyooye, and the Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olatoye Olaniyan, alongside other community leaders.
Meanwhile, the Ilobu community has called on President Bola Tinubu, the Inspector General of Police, and the Department of State Security to intervene, alleging continuous attacks from neighboring communities. The National President of Ilobu Development Union (IDU), Pastor Olufemi Salako, decried the violence, which has reportedly claimed several lives, displaced over 100,000 people, and caused property damage exceeding ₦2 billion.
He urged the federal government and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide urgent assistance, warning that the crisis could escalate further without intervention.
The Osun State Government has reassured residents of its commitment to restoring lasting peace, urging all parties to embrace dialogue and coexistence.
