Senator Adams Oshiomhole has called on the Federal Government to take retaliatory measures against South African businesses operating in Nigeria following renewed xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.
Speaking during plenary, Oshiomhole suggested that authorities should consider revoking the operating licences of major South African companies, including MTN and DStv.
He argued that Nigeria must respond decisively to what he described as repeated hostility toward its citizens abroad, framing the situation as both a diplomatic and economic issue.
According to him, while some South Africans accuse Nigerians of taking jobs, citizens could return home and fill employment opportunities within South African-owned firms in Nigeria.
Oshiomhole maintained that a firm response would compel the South African government to take stronger action, stressing that Nigeria should not tolerate the killing or mistreatment of its citizens.
His remarks come amid reports of attacks on Nigerians and destruction of their businesses during ongoing anti-foreigner violence in South Africa.
