No Going Back, AS RSIEC Goes Ahead With LG Polls

Despite requests for Governor Siminalayi Fubara to halt the process from PDP members, the local government election in Rivers State is going forward as planned.

Nigeria Today Magazine online gathered that, election materials, both sensitive and non-sensitive, have shown up at the Registration and Accreditation Centres (RACs) in a few local government districts, including Ahoada East’s Government Technical College.

The state’s mood is reminiscent of an election day, with the roadways noticeably empty and the Nigeria Police Force visibly absent.
Speaking on Friday, Governor Fubara reiterated his resolve to see the election through to the end, even in light of the Rivers State Police Command’s decision to step down from election oversight.
The governor had accused the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, of attempting to sabotage the election in favor of “an Abuja-based politician.”

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, asserted that the election would proceed as planned, encouraging residents to exercise their voting rights in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
