Sokoto South Senator, Aminu Tambuwal, has stated that there was never any agreement with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to become his running mate during the 2019 presidential primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Tambuwal dismissed the claims that Wike asked to be his vice presidential candidate.
He clarified, “Wike was my partner at the time… I and Wike didn’t have any pact of him being my running mate. It has been said that he asked to be Vice President, but not at all. He never requested that, I must be fair to him.” Tambuwal emphasized that Wike never imposed any conditions during his backing. He regarded their relationship as one based on mutual respect, not opportunism, stating that Wike identified his potential as a capable leader.
