The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a forecast predicting thunderstorms and rain across the nation from today through Wednesday, along with warnings of potential flash floods in various regions.
Beginning with the northern region, morning thunderstorms are expected, bringing moderate rains to states such as Adamawa, Taraba, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Jigawa, Kano, and Katsina. Later in the afternoon, thunderstorms are likely to affect the entire region. In the central region, light rains are anticipated over Benue, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger, Kogi, and Nasarawa during the morning hours, with additional light rains expected in the afternoon.
The southern region will experience cloudy skies, with light rain predicted in states including Ebonyi, Enugu, and Lagos. NiMet has highlighted a significant risk of flooding, particularly in Adamawa, Taraba, Bauchi, Oyo, Ogun, Edo, and Delta states.
In light of these weather conditions, NiMet urges the public to avoid driving during heavy rain and to activate emergency response systems in areas that may experience flooding. Residents are also advised to prepare warm clothing for vulnerable individuals and to secure loose objects to prevent accidents.
