The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant arrests in recent operations, including the apprehension of 29-year-old Ismail Isah, who was found with an AK-47 rifle and two magazines. This arrest occurred on May 16 while NDLEA operatives were patrolling the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.
In a separate incident in Taraba, 22-year-old Shafiu Ismail was detained on May 15 after being discovered with 5,350 pills of tramadol and diazepam. This arrest took place in Sabon-layin, within the Jalingo Local Government Area. On the same day, another suspect, Tijjani Mohammed, 35, was caught in Jigawa with 198 kg of skunk, a potent cannabis variant.
Further operations in Niger led to the interception of a vehicle on May 15 along the Mokwa-Jebba Road. The NDLEA seized 316 blocks of skunk weighing a total of 143 kg from the Toyota Carina, leading to the arrest of the driver, Idris Kamal, 35. In another related operation that day, Emmanuel Hassan, 26, was apprehended at Chachi junction along Kaduna Road with 14.3 kg of Loud, another cannabis variant.
Additionally, a follow-up operation resulted in the arrest of Bello Aliyu, alias Liti, 39, who was identified as the owner of some of the seized drugs.
In Nasarawa State, NDLEA officers arrested 60-year-old Welman Kengbo, who was found with 594.8 kg of skunk on May 16. Another suspect, Oyenuga Toheeb, was detained on the Lekki/Epe Expressway in Lagos State on May 15 with 67.5 kg of the same psychoactive substance.
The NDLEA continues its efforts in combating drug abuse through its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative. Recently, the agency conducted sensitization lectures in various schools, including Supreme International School in Kano, Al-Arifeen International Academy in Kaduna, and Nadado Primary School in Katsina. These activities aim to educate students and staff about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of maintaining a drug-free environment.
The NDLEA has stated that all suspects will be transferred to the appropriate security agencies for further investigation.
