The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has announced the deployment of over 30,000 police personnel for the upcoming local government elections on Saturday. This deployment includes 20,000 officers already in the state and an additional 10,000 personnel approved by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

During a pre-election security briefing, CP Jimoh stated that security measures would cover all 13,325 polling units across the 20 local government areas and 33 local council development areas. The security plan is structured into three phases: pre-election, election day, and post-election, with identified flashpoints receiving special attention.

In addition to police presence, the security architecture will include marine police and tactical units like the Rapid Response Squad. While polling units will remain unarmed, armed intervention teams will be strategically positioned nearby.

The CP also emphasized that there would be restrictions on vehicular movement from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM on election day, a change from the previously announced time, to accommodate emergency services.

Jimoh warned political thugs against attempting to disrupt the electoral process and assured the public of the police’s neutrality. He encouraged residents to participate peacefully in the elections and urged any grievances to be addressed through legal channels, warning against inciting violence post-election.
