The Kwara State Government has firmly denied allegations that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq secretly awarded an $800 million contract to his elder brother, Dr. Alimi AbdulRazaq. The claim was made by Hon. Ilyasu Ibrahim, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), during a radio program.
In response, the state’s Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, described the allegation as “false, malicious, and reckless,” asserting that no such contract had been awarded and that no project of that magnitude had been approved by the Federal Government. The government emphasized that Dr. Alimi AbdulRazaq is a respected legal practitioner and not involved in any contracting activities.
The government criticized the radio station for airing the program without caution and urged the National Broadcasting Commission to review the matter. They also reminded individuals that they could seek legal action if defamed.
Conversely, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) accused the government of evading the real issue. In a statement, PDP spokesperson Olusegun Olusola Adewara questioned whether the governor had indeed awarded the contract, demanding a clear response from him along with a list of contracts awarded since 2019. They further called for a forensic review of a previous transformer contract linked to another AbdulRazaq family member.
The PDP characterized the frequent controversies surrounding the AbdulRazaq name as a concerning pattern, asserting that the people of Kwara are not easily misled.
