The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has informed the Federal High Court in Abuja that Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is fit to stand trial, as his illness is not life-threatening. This assessment was part of a health evaluation ordered by the court due to conflicting medical reports from both the defense and prosecution.
The report, submitted to the court on October 13, indicated that Kanu’s condition does not pose any immediate danger to his life. Following this assessment, Justice James Omotosho ruled that Kanu could proceed with his trial.
The court granted Kanu six consecutive days, starting October 23, to open and close his defense. Additionally, the judge approved a request for a private consultation between Kanu and his legal team, scheduled for October 22, to ensure confidentiality during their discussions.
