Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has denied reports suggesting he is involved in efforts to support former President Goodluck Jonathan’s potential return to the presidential race. He stated that Jonathan has never discussed such intentions with him.
In a media interview aired on TVC, Wike emphasized that Jonathan has not sought his opinion on running for office again, dismissing claims based on unverified media reports. He mentioned, “If he calls me and asks me, I’ll be able to tell him my mind, what I feel.”
Wike’s comments come amid speculation that Jonathan is under pressure from certain stakeholders to refrain from running in 2027 and instead support the current administration’s re-election. This has sparked debate within the PDP, leading to mixed reactions from various geopolitical zones.
Additionally, Wike distanced himself from rumors regarding Tanimu Turaki being appointed as the chairman of the PDP, asserting he has no knowledge of such developments and criticizing the party’s current leadership for sidelining key stakeholders.
He expressed concern that the ongoing internal divisions within the PDP could jeopardize the party’s future, stating, “The way these present governors are doing, they will bury this party.” Wike, who served as Rivers State governor from 2015 to 2023, remains a significant figure within the PDP.
