The Jigawa State Government has sounded a strong warning over reports of illegal fees being extorted from residents during registration for the Renewed Hope Support Programme.
In a firm statement, the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Sagir Musa Ahmed, declared that the entire registration process is completely free, cautioning citizens not to fall victim to fraudsters.
The government revealed it had received disturbing complaints that some enumerators were allegedly collecting ₦500 from unsuspecting applicants—a move it described as outright illegal.
Ahmed issued a stern warning to those involved, ordering them to stop immediately or face consequences, while urging residents to refuse payment and report anyone demanding money.
“This programme is designed to support the people—not exploit them,” he stressed.
The Renewed Hope initiative, introduced to improve citizens’ welfare, is now at risk of being undermined by what officials describe as sharp practices by unscrupulous agents.
With authorities stepping in, residents are being urged to stay alert and ensure they are not cheated out of a programme meant to benefit them.
