Senator Natasha Akpoti-Udaughan, representing Kogi Central, has revealed that she has been approached multiple times by individuals from the Presidency and some colleagues to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress. However, she firmly rejected the idea, emphasizing her commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party despite ongoing political challenges.

In a recent interview, Akpoti-Uduaghan stated that joining the APC is not an option for her, recalling her brief time with the party at the beginning of her political career. She expressed contentment with her current party and mentioned that discussions are ongoing about a potential Senate run, though nothing is certain at this stage.

She addressed rumors regarding former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello’s possible senatorial bid in 2027, asserting that she is unfazed by him. Akpoti-Uduaghan expressed confidence in her ability to face Bello if she decides to run against him.

The senator won her seat in 2023 on the PDP platform after a closely contested election against Abubakar Sadiku-Ohere of the APC. Following a tribunal ruling that annulled Ohere’s victory, she was declared the official winner.

If she chooses to contest again in 2027, Akpoti-Uduaghan indicated that she would likely do so under the PDP, but she might consider switching parties if the leadership crisis within her party remains unresolved. She asserted that she could quickly choose a new platform if necessary, with the expectation that her constituents would support her decision.
