The former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has announced plans to take legal action against an online publication that linked him to a supposed attack on President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking through his media director, Ohiare Michael, Bello condemned the report as not only misleading but also “absolutely absurd.” The statement, issued on Monday, described the article from the website Daily Excessive as a “mischievous” fabrication.

“Our attention has been drawn to this senseless report from a dubious blog, Daily Excessive, which attributed false quotes to our principal, the former Governor Yahaya Bello, regarding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement read.

Bello’s office expressed that they typically would not engage with such a frivolous story, as no reasonable Nigerian would take it seriously. However, they deemed it necessary to clarify the matter for the sake of social media users who might spread unverified information.

The statement continued, highlighting that the article is part of a misguided effort by irresponsible politicians to create discord between Bello and President Tinubu. It dismissed the claims as a desperate attempt to undermine Bello’s reputation.

“The report in circulation is misleading and showcases the lack of intelligence among those trying to discredit the former governor. Anyone following the court proceedings knows that Bello has only entered his plea, and the trial has not yet begun,” the statement emphasized.

Bello’s office pointed out that court records are public and easily accessible, reinforcing that no informed Nigerian would give credence to such unfounded claims.

The former governor reaffirmed his support for President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasizing his commitment to the party and its leadership.
