Thirty-five Nigerian nationals have been deported from Ireland in a chartered flight that arrived in Nigeria on Thursday, June 6, 2025. The deportees, consisting of 21 men, nine women, and five children, were repatriated following what Irish authorities described as enforcement of immigration rules.
According to Irish Minister for Justice, Jim O’Callaghan, the deportation exercise proceeded as planned despite a medical emergency that forced an unscheduled stopover. “Ireland has a rules-based immigration system. It is important that those rules are robust and enforced,” the Minister stated.
The Irish government did not provide specific reasons for the deportation of the affected individuals.
However, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) said it was unaware of the deportation at the time it occurred. NiDCOM spokesperson, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, confirmed on Thursday that the agency had not been officially notified by the Irish authorities.
The development has added to growing concerns over recent crackdowns on undocumented migrants across several countries, including the United States and India.
