The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has called for the public release of a medical report regarding its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. In a statement, IPOB spokesperson Comrade Emma Powerful noted that a panel of senior doctors and consultants appointed by the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), completed their assessment of Kanu two days ago, but the findings have yet to be made public.
IPOB expressed concern over the delay in releasing the report and urged the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Attorney-General to disclose the findings promptly. The statement emphasized that “transparency demands that the report be released without delay” and requested that Kanu be granted access to the doctors’ findings.
Nnamdi Kanu has been in DSS custody since his re-arrest in 2021 and faces charges, including alleged treasonable felony. His health and detention have attracted significant public attention, with various rights groups previously expressing concern about his well-being.
As of the time of publication, the DSS and the Office of the Attorney-General had not yet responded to requests for comment.
