The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it has received 12 new applications from associations seeking registration as political parties, bringing the total number of applications under review to 122.

This announcement follows INEC’s earlier disclosure on June 23, which indicated that 110 applications had already been received. The commission emphasized its commitment to a transparent and fair registration process for all applicants.

“On June 23, we informed the public about 110 applications for party registration. We are now processing 12 additional applications as of July 2, 2025, totaling 122,” said Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.

The commission has uploaded the details of the new applications, including the names of associations, their acronyms, addresses, and interim leadership, to its website for public access. INEC will respond to each application in accordance with the Electoral Act and Regulations for Political Parties.

INEC also noted some internal changes within applying associations, including a recent replacement of an interim Secretary due to a defection. The commission urged all applicant associations to maintain consistent leadership and contact information to ensure a smooth registration process.

“Consistency in leadership and communication is crucial to avoid delays in the consideration of applications,” the statement added.
