The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has received seven new applications from associations seeking registration as political parties, bringing the total number of applications to 129. This announcement was made by INEC national commissioner, Sam Olumekun, in Abuja.
The newly registered groups include the National Peace Congress Party of Nigeria (NPCP), Alliance for Transformation Mandates (ATM), Democracy for Citizens Party (DFP), African Renaissance Party (ARP), United Democratic Alliance (UDA), and Future Democratic Party (FDP).
Olumekun also revealed that INEC is introducing a political party registration portal as part of its Party Financial Reporting and Auditing System (PFRAS). This initiative aims to streamline the registration process, making it faster and more efficient. The final testing of the portal is expected to be completed within a week before its deployment.
He stated, “All the requests are being processed,” and additional guidelines for associations that meet the requirements for application will be provided soon.
