In a distressing incident, gunmen attacked Elyon Paradise Ministry in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, during a vigil on Friday night, injuring the pastor and abducting six church members. The assault occurred around 10 p.m. near Delta State Polytechnic, causing widespread fear in the community.
Apostle Divine Omodia was hospitalized after sustaining gunshot wounds, having been shot in the lap and losing two fingers. His wife, Pastor Faith Omodia, described the horrifying moment when the attackers fired indiscriminately into the church auditorium, where congregants had gathered.
The assailants forced worshippers outside and abducted six individuals, including two security guards. The victims have been identified as Helen Onwuamaeze, Ariyo Emmanuel, Chike Okolo, and Blessing Waye, along with unnamed guards.
Residents have voiced serious concerns regarding security at religious centers and are calling on authorities to act swiftly to rescue the abducted individuals and capture the perpetrators. Meanwhile, the Delta State Police Command has not confirmed the incident, with Police Public Relations Officer Bright Edafe noting that no report has been filed at any police station concerning the attack.
