Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has officially dissolved the state executive council, which includes his commissioners, and has dismissed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Muhammad Aliyu-Ubamdoma. This decision was announced during a special emergency executive meeting held at the Government House in Lafia.

The announcement came shortly after Vice President Kashim Shetima’s one-day working visit to the state, where he inaugurated several projects. A government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, indicated that the reasons for the dissolution remain unclear, but noted that Governor Sule has a history of restructuring the state’s administration.

In 2021, Sule also dissolved the executive council, emphasizing the need for a more effective governance structure. As the situation develops, citizens of Nasarawa State are left awaiting further clarification on the implications of this decision and the future direction of the state’s administration.

In a statement signed by Mohammed Iliyasu-Idde, the permanent secretary of cabinet affairs and special services, Governor Sule expressed gratitude to the outgoing council members for their contributions to the state’s growth and wished them well in their future endeavors. The statement outlined that all outgoing council members are to hand over the affairs of their ministries and any government property in their possession to the permanent secretaries of their respective ministries.

Earlier in July 2023, Governor Sule submitted the names of 17 commissioner-nominees to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as new members of the State Executive Council.
