Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has sparked political speculation after expressing doubts about the viability of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a long-term platform for his political career. Speaking during a constituency outreach in Ukanafun, he compared the PDP to a faulty aircraft and hinted at possibly switching parties, a remark many see as a prelude to joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This comes amid widening cracks in the PDP, worsened by recent defections such as that of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to the APC. Despite voicing his concerns, Governor Eno reaffirmed his commitment to governance and urged his supporters to remain focused on development goals.
At the event, the governor distributed grants and equipment to over 400 constituents, including farmers, traders, and small business owners. He emphasized responsible use of the funds and discouraged investment in unproductive ventures like Ponzi schemes.
Governor Eno stated that the outreach program has so far covered four of Akwa Ibom’s 10 federal constituencies, with plans to incorporate citizens’ needs into the 2026 budget. While no formal defection has been announced, his comments have intensified political debate both within the state and nationally.
