Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has commended traditional rulers for their vital role in maintaining peace and security across the state, citing their grassroots involvement and collaboration with security agencies as central to the government’s non-violent strategy against insecurity.

Speaking on Sunday at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna during a ceremony where 23 SUVs were distributed to traditional leaders, Governor Sani emphasized the significance of their contributions to intelligence-sharing and community stability. “Without the support of our traditional leaders, we would not have achieved security and stability in Kaduna State,” he said.

He acknowledged the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, for facilitating the vehicle distribution, describing it as an act of motivation and support for the traditional institutions that have become instrumental in Kaduna’s peace efforts.

Highlighting the success of his administration’s approach, Sani stated that Kaduna has experienced two years without ethno-religious or communal clashes and is now “one of the most peaceful sub-nationals in the country.”

The governor also touched on developmental projects initiated during his tenure as senator, notably the ₦12 billion Faculty of Engineering at Kaduna State University, which is nearing completion with the support of Central Bank Deputy Governor Mohammed Sani Abdullahi Dattijo and Speaker Abbas. He credited the continued progress to the “synergy” among state stakeholders.

In his remarks, Speaker Abbas said the vehicles were intended not as luxury items but as practical tools to help traditional rulers fulfill their duties across their territories. He also revealed that further support, including palace renovations, was included in the 2025 federal budget.

Importantly, Abbas announced that the ongoing constitutional amendment process would seek to formally include traditional rulers in Nigeria’s governance framework beginning in 2026. “The National Assembly will do everything humanly possible to carve out a prominent role for our traditional rulers,” he assured.
