Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a towering figure in Nigeria’s political history and a symbol of discipline and patriotism.

Reacting to the news of Buhari’s passing on Sunday in the United Kingdom at the age of 82, Governor Soludo in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, said the former president’s death marks the end of an era in Nigeria’s leadership journey.

He noted that Buhari’s life was defined by a firm dedication to integrity, discipline, and the pursuit of a better Nigeria. From his early days in the military to his stints as Head of State and later as a two-term democratically elected President, Soludo said Buhari remained committed to the service of the country and the welfare of its citizens.

The Governor particularly recalled Buhari’s anti-indiscipline campaign, famously launched under the War Against Indiscipline (WAI) during his military regime, as a reflection of his passion for order and national values.

“President Buhari’s contributions to national development remain pivotal and unforgettable,” Soludo stated, citing his administration’s efforts in the areas of security, infrastructure development, agriculture, and the anti-corruption war.

He added that beyond Buhari’s policies and programmes, his personal convictions and resilience in the face of national challenges inspired many Nigerians.

“He believed in the unity and greatness of Nigeria and worked tirelessly towards a peaceful and prosperous nation,” Soludo said.

The Anambra State Governor extended heartfelt condolences to the Buhari family, the Federal Government, and all Nigerians, praying for Almighty Allah to grant the former president eternal rest and comfort the nation in this moment of mourning.
