Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara visited his Bayelsa State counterpart, Duoye Diri, to express condolences following the sudden death of Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Bayelsa’s deputy governor, on December 11.
Governor Fubara, dressed in a black native shirt and hat, arrived at the Bayelsa State Government House in Yenagoa on December 21, 2025. He described Ewhrudjakpo’s passing as a monumental loss and empathized with the Bayelsa State government and its people.
In a statement he signed, Fubara extended heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Rivers State government, emphasizing the profound impact of Ewhrudjakpo’s life and public service. He praised the late deputy governor as a man of exceptional caliber, combining intellect with humility, and serving as a steadfast anchor for the administration.
Fubara noted, “The sad news resonates across our borders, leaving us in a state of collective mourning alongside our brothers and sisters in Bayelsa State.” He highlighted Ewhrudjakpo’s role as a beacon of hope for his constituents, emphasizing his dedication to public service throughout his distinguished career.
Governor Diri has previously ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of Ewhrudjakpo’s death.
