Ghanaians Protest in Abuja Against Police Harassment

On June 19, 2025, hundreds of Ghanaian investors gathered outside the Nigerian High Commission in Abuja, protesting what they described as “systematic harassment, intimidation, and violation of our fundamental rights” by Nigerian authorities, including the Nigeria Police and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The protesters called for intervention from both Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and Ghanaian President John Mahama to address these injustices. Many investors, including Kojo Mensah, a lead developer of the River Park Estate project, reported arbitrary arrests and intimidation.

The protest follows a lawsuit filed against the Inspector General of Police, the Nigeria Police, and the EFCC, seeking a permanent injunction against further interference in their business operations and compensation for damages. The investors also demanded the release of a long-delayed report from a Special Investigation Panel that purportedly cleared their companies of any wrongdoing.

These protests highlight ongoing tensions regarding foreign investments in Nigeria and the perceived state-sponsored intimidation of legitimate businesses. The demonstration aims not only to seek justice for the affected investors but also to protect the integrity of foreign investments in the country.
