National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has said the party would be willing to accommodate former Kano State governor, Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, if he chooses to return. Speaking to journalists after meeting with Alhaji Yusuf Ata, the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Ganduje described Kwankwaso as “a fish out of water,” suggesting his political relevance has waned outside the APC.

Ganduje added that it would be “morally right” for the APC to accept Kwankwaso back, despite their long-standing rivalry, if the former governor seeks political shelter. “When you see your son running to where he would get shelter and you are a big brother in a big home, I think it is morally right to accommodate him,” he said.

Ganduje’s remarks came as the APC continues efforts to consolidate power ahead of the 2027 elections. His guest, Minister Ata — a former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly — pledged full support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration and vowed to help secure Kano State for the APC in the next general election.

However, Ata voiced personal opposition to Kwankwaso’s return to the APC, saying the former governor’s political movement, the Kwankwasiyya, had become irrelevant in Kano. “For me, I will not want the former Kano state governor to be welcomed into the APC fold. But I have no choice if our national chairman decides to have him on board,” Ata stated.
