Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has stated that while the removal of the fuel subsidy has been painful, it was a necessary reform for the country. He made this remark during a conference of commissioners of Information from APC-controlled states in Minna.
Idris emphasized that this decision was one of the most significant actions taken by the current administration, aimed at preventing fiscal collapse and reducing economic waste. He asserted that the funds saved from the subsidy removal have allowed for increased investment in major infrastructure projects, including highways and railways.
Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, who spoke at the conference, highlighted the importance of effective communication about government policies. He stressed that citizens need to understand and trust the intentions behind the reforms to fully support the government’s initiatives.
The conference, themed “Strategic Communication and Policy Alignment,” aimed to address how governance is perceived beyond just policy enactment and infrastructure development.
