Over 500 houses have been destroyed by flood in Kabba, the headquarters of Kabba/Bunu local government area of Kogi State. Properties worth millions of naira have been lost, leaving many families without shelter. The rainfall occurred consistently for three days, causing streams and brooks to overflow. The Idde-Iyah community was particularly hard-hit. A traditional ruler of Idde-Iyah community, Chief Obahunlewo, lost his home and belongings. Over 1,500 domestic animals died, and places of worship were washed away.

A former Assembly speaker, Rt Hon. Mathew Kolawole, called the disaster a humanitarian crisis and stressed the importance of flood control measures. A source at the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) said they were aware of the incident but were yet to get official reports. Senator Sunday Karimi has expressed his deepest sympathy to the people and families affected by the flooding. The Kogi State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project is working to complete channeling and gully stabilization in Kabba.
