Borno South Senator, Ali Ndume, has issued a stark warning to President Bola Tinubu, suggesting he may leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) if pressing national issues remain unaddressed. Ndume’s comments came during an interview on Arise News, where he also criticized former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai for his political struggles.
Ndume, who was the Director-General of Rotimi Amaechi’s presidential campaign, expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of governance, stating, “If I decide to leave the APC, I will not hide it.” He believes Tinubu still has the potential to make necessary changes but warned that failure to do so could lead to his departure from the party.
He cautioned against an influx of new members into the APC, noting that overloading the party with diverse political interests could lead to its downfall. “When you overload a ship, it might lead to the capsizing of the party,” he remarked.
Reflecting on El-Rufai’s political shift, Ndume remarked that El-Rufai’s switch from supporting Amaechi to backing Tinubu may have contributed to his current troubles. He noted, “El-Rufai was supposed to be on our side… but somehow, he moved over.”
El-Rufai, now affiliated with the Social Democratic Party, has criticized Tinubu after being excluded from the cabinet. Ndume suggested that those advising the President may be misleading him, potentially damaging his image.
Ndume has a history of political engagement and has been vocal about the challenges facing Nigeria, urging the need for effective governance and accountability.
