Self-proclaimed leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Simon Ekpa has been arrested in Finland.
According to the BBC, Ekpa was subsequently sentenced to prison for spreading terrorist propaganda on social media ”.
Ekpa was also said to have committed the crime in 2021, in Lahti municipality.
The Finnish National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) also arrested four other men over alleged terrorist offences.
Ekpa, a Nigerian and Finnish national, has identified himself as the leader of the separatist IPOB group following Nnamdi Kanu’s imprisonment.
Ekpa’s actions and social media posts, according to Finnish police, may have ignited unrest in southeast Nigeria.
“He carries out these activities from his social media channels, for example,” said Otto Hiltunen, detective chief inspector of the NBI.
