The Federal Government of Nigeria has responded to a recent security advisory issued by the United States Embassy, which advised its staff and families against non-official travel to military sites and other government facilities in Abuja. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated that Abuja remains safe for residents and visitors.

In his statement, Idris emphasized that Nigeria’s security agencies are actively working to ensure safety across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). He noted that the current security measures have been effective in detecting and neutralizing threats. The minister acknowledged the right of foreign missions to issue travel advisories but insisted that the advisory does not reflect any specific threat in Abuja.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining the capital’s reputation as one of the world’s safest cities. Idris encouraged citizens to go about their daily activities without fear while remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious activity to authorities.

The government’s response comes amid ongoing concerns about security in the region, but officials maintain that the situation is under control and that there is no cause for alarm.
