The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially commenced the payment of a new monthly allowance of N77,000 to serving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). This increase, initially announced by President Bola Tinubu in September 2024, has been met with enthusiasm among corps members across the country. However, the implementation faced delays that left many in uncertainty as they continued to receive the previous stipend of N33,000, which was set in 2020 under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Recently, corps members began receiving their revised allowance after a wait of nearly six months. While some have confirmed receipt of the new payment, others are still awaiting theirs, with the rollout occurring in batches. The Minister of Youths has assured corps members that the federal government is committed to clearing any backlog related to the N77,000 allowance.

Reactions on social media have been mixed, with many corps members celebrating the long-anticipated increase while others express concerns over the delays in payment. This adjustment in allowance is part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance the welfare of corps members and ensure they are adequately supported during their service year.
