Former Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, has alleged that suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara ordered the 2023 bombing of the state House of Assembly complex in a bid to prevent his impeachment.
Nwaeke made this claim during a press briefing on Friday, stating that he witnessed the transaction where a bag of money was handed over to the former Assembly leader, Edison Ehie, who later became Fubara’s Chief of Staff. According to him, the funds were meant for the attack on the Assembly Complex on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.
“I was there when the money was given to Edison for that operation. The House of Assembly Complex was deliberately brought down under Fubara’s instructions. I challenge him to an open confrontation, and I will provide more details,” Nwaeke stated.
He further alleged that Fubara had considered destroying the Assembly members’ residential quarters but was deterred by public outcry.
Governor Fubara Denies Allegation
Reacting to the claims, Fubara dismissed them as baseless, urging Nigerians to disregard Nwaeke’s statements.
“The truth is that Dr. Nwaeke has been compromised. His allegations are nothing but desperate attempts to discredit me and undermine the peace process initiated by Mr. President,” Fubara stated in a personally signed release.
Nwaeke, who recently resigned from his position, insisted that his decision was voluntary and not influenced by external pressure.
