The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of additional personnel and resources to Rivers State. This decision, announced in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, aims to enhance security, protect lives and property, and safeguard critical infrastructure throughout the state.
Egbetokun emphasized the need for a collaborative effort among deployed operatives, the Armed Forces, and other security agencies to prevent any potential breakdown of law and order in the region. He reassured citizens that while individuals have the right to seek legal redress, any unlawful gatherings, protests, or activities that threaten public peace will be addressed with the full force of the law.
The statement underscored the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability, urging residents to comply with legal directives and continue their daily activities without fear. Egbetokun reminded the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that might compromise safety.
This heightened security measure follows President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, which included the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the State House of Assembly for six months. The President has appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas (retd) as the Sole Administrator for the state.
