In a significant development following the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has officially vacated the Government House in Port Harcourt. Accompanied by his family and security personnel, Fubara departed from the seat of power on Wednesday morning, as confirmed by a source close to the situation.
Despite the absence of the governor, security measures at the Government House remain in place, albeit with a reduced presence. Two Armoured Personnel Carriers, which were positioned outside the premises the previous night, continue to monitor the area alongside a limited number of security operatives.
As of the latest updates, daily activities in Port Harcourt and its surrounding areas have proceeded without major disruption. Meanwhile, Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas, the administrator appointed by President Bola Tinubu to manage the state during the emergency, had yet to take office as of noon on Wednesday.
Preparations for Ibas’s arrival are underway, with approximately 15 soldiers stationed within the Government House to ensure a smooth transition of authority. The former Chief of Naval Staff’s expected leadership marks a critical phase in addressing the political turmoil that has led to the emergency declaration.
This transition highlights the ongoing efforts to restore governance and stability in Rivers State following the recent upheaval.
