Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are currently questioning Uju Ohanenye, the former Minister of Women Affairs, regarding alleged misappropriation and diversion of public funds totaling ₦138 million. The investigation focuses on her role in the disbursement of the 2023 budgeted allocation for the ministry.

Ohanenye arrived at the EFCC headquarters around 11 a.m. on Thursday for interrogation. According to sources within the commission, the former minister is being investigated for her involvement in the misappropriation of funds intended for the P-Bat Cares for Women Initiative, which were allegedly diverted for her personal enrichment.

The EFCC has been actively pursuing cases of financial misconduct, and Ohanenye’s questioning follows her removal from office alongside four other ministers after the 19th Federal Executive Council meeting in October 2024. In her place, President Bola Tinubu appointed Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim as the new Minister of Women Affairs.

As of now, efforts to obtain a comment from the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, have been unsuccessful. The ongoing investigation reflects the commission’s commitment to addressing corruption and enforcing accountability among public officials.
