Dr. Olatunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, has responded to concerns from the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), FCT Wing, regarding the implementation of the new National Minimum Wage for primary school teachers in the Federal Capital Territory.
In a statement released in Abuja, Alausa emphasized the importance of dialogue and unity to resolve the ongoing strike by FCT teachers. He acknowledged the NUT’s communiqué issued after its Emergency State Wing Standing Committee meeting on March 22, 2025, highlighting the decentralized structure of governance affecting primary education.
The minister reaffirmed the federal ministry’s commitment to the welfare and professional development of teachers and called on Area Council Chairmen to take proactive steps toward reaching an amicable resolution.
Alausa also noted ongoing reforms in basic education under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which includes infrastructure upgrades and curriculum modernization. He urged all parties to engage in good faith to protect the integrity of Nigeria’s basic education system.
