The Edo State Executive Council has approved a supplementary budget of N125 billion for 2025, increasing the total budget to N799.820 billion from the initial N675.220 billion, which represents an 18% increase. This decision was made during an emergency executive meeting on September 29, 2025, led by Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo.

The Commissioner for Finance, Emmanuel Okoebor, explained that the revision reflects the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, with capital expenditure now accounting for 70% of the budget, compared to 30% for recurrent expenditure. The increase in the budget includes a N12 billion rise in recurrent expenditure and a N113 billion increase in capital spending.

Okoebor emphasized that the adjustments were necessary due to the recent minimum wage increase and the hiring of over 1,000 staff in the hospital management board. The revised budget will be forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly for legislative approval.

In addition, the state government has appointed former Speaker Hon. Frank Okiye as the chairman of the newly established Edo State Lottery Regulatory Commission, which will oversee lottery and gaming activities in the state.
