On May 21, 2025, the Nigerian Customs Service announced a significant seizure of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) valued at over N104.4 million in Adamawa State. Comptroller Garba Bashir briefed journalists in Yola, detailing the operation as part of the ongoing anti-smuggling efforts aimed at enhancing national security and economic growth.

During a four-week reporting period, the Adamawa and Taraba states command confiscated 36,835 liters of PMS, packaged in 1,219 jerrycans and 24 drums. Additionally, 101 pieces of raw donkey skin were seized, which Bashir indicated were linked to the illegal exportation of donkeys, a practice that threatens their population.

Bashir emphasized that donkeys serve crucial roles in agriculture and transport, and their illegal exportation could lead to extinction. He credited the success of the operation to intelligence-driven strategies, modern technology, and coordinated border management.

The comptroller assured that the customs command would continue to combat economic saboteurs, stating, “This fight will be done within the confines of the law, and it needs the collective efforts of all concerned Nigerians.” He also noted that the command remains committed despite facing threats and intimidation from smugglers.

This operation reflects the Nigerian Customs Service’s dedication to safeguarding the nation’s resources and combating illegal activities that undermine economic stabiility.
