A Delta State High Court sitting in Orerokpe has issued an ex-parte injunction restraining the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and the Delta State Commissioner of Police from enforcing the tinted glass permit policy across the country.
In the ruling delivered by Justice Joe Egwu, the court barred the police and their agents from stopping, harassing, arresting, detaining or extorting motorists under the guise of enforcing the policy. The court also restrained the IGP and NPF from using the Parkway Projects Account, a private contractor’s account, for any government business pending the determination of the substantive suit.
The orders were made in a suit filed by Mr. Israel Joe and will remain in force pending the hearing of the main application. The plaintiff was represented by Kunle Edun, SAN, alongside other counsel.
By the ruling, the Nigeria Police’s planned resumption of tinted glass permit enforcement scheduled for January 2, 2026, has been put on hold nationwide.
