The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has granted suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan bail in the amount of N50 million, along with one surety of reasonable integrity residing in Abuja. This ruling follows a defamation charge against her, where she is accused of making defamatory statements about Senate President Godswill Akpabio during a live television broadcast.

The Attorney General’s office filed a three-count criminal charge, alleging that Akpoti-Uduaghan claimed that Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello conspired to orchestrate her assassination. These statements were made during a live appearance on Channels Television on April 3, 2025.

During the court proceedings, both sides presented arguments regarding the bail application. The prosecution opposed the bail, citing concerns that the senator might flee. However, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal team argued for her release, emphasizing her presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

Following the ruling, the senator is expected to fulfill the bail conditions. The case has drawn significant attention, with several prominent individuals listed as witnesses in the trial.
