An Upper Area Court in Kubwa, Abuja, has dissolved a 24-year-old marriage between a businessman, Yakubu Yahaya and his wife Amina Yusuf over lack of love.
The Judge, Mohammed Wakili dissolved the marriage according to Islamic Law, following Yahaya’s prayer for confirmation of divorce to his wife.
Wakili ordered Yusuf to observe “Iddah” which is a waiting period to be observed for three months before contracting another marriage.
Earlier, the petitioner had told the court that he got married to the respondent under Islamic law on Oct. 1, 2000 and was blessed with four children.
He said that the respondent gradually changed her character towards him and threatened his life.
Yahaya said he could no longer live with the respondent due to her character, adding that there was no more love between them.
”I have pronounced divorce to her and urge the honourable court to confirm it and dissolve the marriage,” he prayed the court.
