The legal counsel representing the Senate has publicly challenged claims by Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan regarding her suspension. In a statement, the Senate’s legal team refuted her assertion that a Federal High Court ruling mandated her recall from suspension.

The statement addressed a viral video in which Akpoti-Uduaghan announced plans to resume legislative duties based on a July 4 ruling by Justice Binta Nyako. The Senate’s counsel clarified that the court’s judgment did not include any order nullifying her six-month suspension.

According to Paul Daudu, present during the court proceedings, the judge offered an opinion suggesting the suspension might be excessive but did not issue a binding directive. The legal team warned that any public claims of a court order could create confusion and undermine the relationship between the judiciary and the National Assembly.

They emphasized that the official court record detailing the judgment was still pending, advising against any actions until all parties reviewed the formal pronouncement. The statement concluded with a call for Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal representatives to act professionally to avoid potential constitutional or legislative issues.
