The Ogun State Police Command has initiated an investigation after controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, known as Portable, surrendered to authorities. He arrived at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yaba, Lagos, and was later transferred to Abeokuta for further questioning.
Portable’s surrender comes after he was declared wanted following a violent altercation with officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning. The incident occurred when Portable allegedly attacked the officials, armed with a firearm, accompanied by nine thugs. The confrontation resulted in injuries to the officials, prompting a police investigation.
Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed Portable’s arrival and stated that due process would be followed in handling the case. She emphasized that he would be treated like any other Nigerian citizen.
In a video statement, Portable claimed he is undergoing treatment for mental health issues and expressed fear of government actions against him. He has previously alleged that he is being set up due to his association with a local lawmaker.
Meanwhile, nine of Portable’s associates have already been arraigned for their involvement in the attack, facing charges of assault and other offenses, to which they pleaded not guilty. The police continue to investigate the matter as updates are provided to the public.
