Former Chief of Army Staff and ex-Ambassador to the Benin Republic, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd.), has denied reports claiming he was attacked by Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State.
In a statement released in Abuja, his spokesman and former Army spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman (retd.), described the reports as false, mischievous, and a fabrication aimed at misleading the public.
Usman clarified that Buratai celebrated the Eid festivities peacefully in Abuja, in the company of his family, friends, and well-wishers, and has not left the Federal Capital Territory since then.
He dismissed the claims as baseless and a product of fake news, stating that the aim of such reports is to tarnish Buratai’s image and spread fear and confusion among the public.
He expressed appreciation to the many Nigerians who reached out to Buratai with messages of concern, goodwill, and support, saying their outpouring of love is a reflection of the enduring respect the general enjoys nationwide.
Usman reaffirmed that no amount of propaganda or falsehood can undermine the reputation of a man who has dedicated his life to the service of Nigeria, and urged the public to disregard the fake reports.
