Breaking: Former Police IG Solomon Arase Passes Away

Former Inspector-General of Police Solomon Ehigiator Arase has died at Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja. Arase, who served as Nigeria’s 18th Inspector-General of Police, later became Chairman of the Police Service Commission.

Born on June 21, 1956, in Edo State, Arase studied Political Science at Ahmadu Bello University and joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1981. He held several strategic positions, including heading the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau and serving as Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State.

Arase retired from the Force in 2016 and was appointed Chairman of the Police Service Commission in January 2023. He was known for his dedication to police welfare and introduced significant initiatives to improve policing, such as the Intelligence Response Team and the Complaint Response Unit.

Beyond his policing career, Arase was committed to education and social impact through the Solomon Ehigiator Arase Foundation, which awarded scholarships to students, particularly those from underserved communities. He is remembered as a principled leader and reformer who left a lasting impact on Nigeria’s security landscape.
