Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last general elections, has resigned from the party. He disclosed this in a letter that was confirmed by Vanguard and one of his aides on Wednesday.
Three weeks ago, Atiku formed a coalition under the African Democratic Party (ADC) with notable figures including Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and ex-Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai.
This coalition aims to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 election.
