Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State have condemned calls for the removal of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, urging those behind the plot to cease their efforts.

In a communique issued after a meeting in Makurdi, the stakeholders asserted that the party’s constitution does not recognize caretaker committees, deeming any such formation illegal. They affirmed that Austin Agada is the legitimate elected chairman of the APC in Benue State.

Senator Jack Gyado, who read the communique, expressed concern over divisions within the party following its significant victory in the 2023 general elections. He stated, “Any purported caretaker committee aimed at further dividing us will not succeed, as it is not sanctioned by the APC constitution.”

The stakeholders called for unity within the party to support Akume, who played a pivotal role in their electoral success. They warned that those who owe their positions to Akume yet seek his removal will face consequences in the 2027 elections.

The communique praised Akume as a notable Benue politician with a commitment to helping others and emphasized continued support for him. Additionally, the stakeholders endorsed President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, promising to mobilize support across the state to ensure he receives full backing.

They commended President Tinubu for his appointments benefiting Benue State and pledged to work towards his re-election, despite recent protests from gubernatorial liaison officers calling for Akume’s dismissal.
