Suspected bandits launched a brutal assault late Thursday night in Jargaba community, Bakori Local Government Area, Katsina State, resulting in the deaths of six individuals and the abduction of two women. Eyewitnesses reported that heavily armed assailants stormed a popular public gathering spot, opened fire indiscriminately, and killed six men on the spot, including an assistant to the local Community Watch Corps.
Amid the chaos, two children suffered injuries from stray bullets. After the initial attack, the bandits raided a nearby residence and abducted two women, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
The spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the attack, stating that six people were killed—two on the spot and four who succumbed to injuries later. However, he was unable to confirm details about the kidnapping at the time.
Hon. Abdulrahman Ahmed, the lawmaker representing Bakori in the state House of Assembly, condemned the attack and expressed grief over the ongoing security challenges in the area. He described how the bandits targeted the public gathering where six men were socializing. Ahmed extended his condolences to the affected families and called for divine intervention to improve the security situation.
